Stories about dying children are always going to feel exploitative to me. That said, this movie threads that needle fairly well. The DIY aesthetic of the movie-in-a-movie, along with the depiction of a village coming together, feels like a more earnest and authentic “Be Kind, Rewind”
In a pre-COVID viewing, this may have struck me differently. But alone in my house, believing in community and a dash of magic is what I needed
