Cult Movie Challenge 2018 | 40/52 | Troma
Space. A computer mouse/spaceship careens through our galaxy. An asteroid hits it, causing it to land on Earth, near Marsh Cliff in Perry Hall, Maryland. From the vehicle emerges an alien I don’t know how to describe, so, you know, just look at the poster. He starts taking people out left and right with his disintegrator gun. He also rips some folks apart for whatever reason.
The police arrive and have a shootout with the alien. The alien appears impervious to bullets, but that doesn’t stop them from shooting at him. Meanwhile, the alien takes out several of them before they retreat to the sheriff’s office. They call on ace marksman Bill Perkins and his son Jimmy to take the alien out. Bill can destroy the gun, but the alien gets his son Jimmy.
The sheriff asks the mayor to evacuate the town, but the mayor is too focused on this party for Governor Embry. But the sheriff isn’t going to let anyone else die. Will he be able to save the town from this alien invasion? Or are they doomed?
This movie isn’t very good, but it would be so much fun to watch with a group of friends.
Stray Thoughts / Spoilers
- Supposedly, J.J. Abrams did some of the score for the movie?
- I love the disintegration effect!
- They just have that one laser sound effect, huh?
- For some reason, the movie needs another villain, so we get motorcycle deviant Drago, whose sole motivation seems to be beating up women.
- The governor’s visit is a pool party where he drinks a “vodka and water, mild,” and talks about all the counties he’s going to steal money from.
- The sheriff and Lisa sex scene is SO AWKWARD — absolutely iconic in how unsexy it is. We even get a little bit of the sheriff’s Hank Hill butt.
