Oh My Horror 2025 | 52/52 | Christmas Horror
The Harrington family is on its way to Grandma’s house for Christmas. It’s night, and the father, Frank, has decided to take the scenic route. While driving, he and everyone else drift off to sleep, only to be awakened by an oncoming car.
Frank gets out and checks the car. Everyone is okay, so they continue on their way. While driving, they find a woman in white holding a baby, stranded on the side of the road. They pick her up and look for a place to call 911.
But strange things start happening. And family members start going missing.
I feel like everyone who has rated this movie highly is gaslighting me. I get it — Ray Wise is a lot of fun as his over-the-top, silly self. Lin Shaye also gets plenty of opportunities to go ham. But the script is weak, and the plot is tedious. If you’ve seen a horror movie before, you’ll figure out what’s going on 20 minutes in.
The son, Richard, is supposed to be edgy, but it is so tired. He stops at one point to pull out a porno mag and jerk off in the woods. He also stops at another point to smoke a joint and fantasize about being a cruel uncle.
If this movie were 20-30 minutes long, I could get on board. But at 85 minutes, it is a slog. My dad kept waiting for me to say we should turn it off, but I was waiting for him to say it. So we played horror movie chicken. And what did we win? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe if I tried again with a different crowd and an “awesomely bad” mindset, I could enjoy it. Or turn it into a drinking game — every time someone talks about another character being in shock, take a shot. You’ll be blackout drunk before the third act.
